Information Regarding Nevada Drug and Alcohol Counselor Requirements

Licensed/Certified Counselors

Nevada Administrative Code 641C (NAC 641C.300) requires that all licensed or certified alcohol and drug counselors earn 40 hours of continuing education hours during a two-year period of licensure or certification, of which three hours must pertain to ethics and three hours must pertain to confidentiality and HIPAA.

Clinical Supervisors

Licensed counselors who supervise certified interns must attend at least ten hours of continuing education in counseling supervision, ethics, and Nevada law during the two-year certification period. These hours may be included in the required 40 hours of continuing education.

Certified Interns

Please note: the CEU’s for Confidentiality and Ethics must now be completed prior to beginning internship.

Must be 21, a citizen of the United States or is lawfully entitled to remain and work in the United States.  Requires you have a minimum of 60 credits towards your degree in an approved social science field, 6 hours of training specific to Confidentiality/HIPAA and 6 hours of instruction in ethics. A minimum of 18 credits (or more) in addiction specific studies, in an approved college for reduction in hours (4000 to 1500), or provide the Board with a transcript from the registrar’s office showing the completion of an appropriate degree from an accredited college or university with a minor in addiction 12 addiction credits for a masters and 18 addiction credits for a bachelors.

Social Work CEHs

Pursuant to NAC 641B.189(2) revised February 11, 2009 and the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers, a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) may take up to 15 hours of continuing education credits and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) may take up to 18 hours of continuing education credits via distance learning/remote study courses, home study and/or self directed learning programs during a two-year period.

Training Policy

Receipts will be given to registrants upon request only. Refunds will be made ONLY if the cancellation of workshop registration is received at least three working days prior to the workshop. Refunds will NOT be offered for non-attendance. Please e-mail training@casat.org with any questions, comments or concerns.
